VOCABULARY #4

 accede- assent or agree to a demand, request, or treaty. Assume an office or position.
 brandish- wave or flourish (something, esp. a weapon) as a threat or in anger or excitement.
 comprise- consist of; be made up of.
 deft- neatly skillful and quick in one's movements.
 destitute- without the basic necessities of life.
 explicit- stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt.
 extirpate- root out and destroy completely.
 inopportune- occurring at an inconvenient or inappropriate time.
 ironic- using or characterized by irony.
 musty- having a stale, moldy, or damp smell.
 officious- assertive of authority in an annoyingly domineering way, esp. with regard to petty or trivial matters.
 ominous- giving the impression that something bad or unpleasant is going to happen; threatening; inauspicious.
 pinnacle- a high, pointed piece of rock. Set on or as if on a pinnacle.
 premeditated- think out or plan (an action, esp. a crime) beforehand.
 rampant- Severe, unchecked caries that affect multiple teeth. 
 solace- comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness.
 stately- a large and fine house that is occupied or was formerly occupied by an aristocratic family.
 supple- bending and moving easily and gracefully; flexible.
 suppress- forcibly put an end to.
 venal-showing or motivated by susceptibility to bribery.
